In the world of online card games, we often look for the extremes. We want the absolute best platform with hundreds of features, or we want to warn people about the absolute worst sites plagued by bugs and intrusive ads. But what about the websites that sit right in the middle? FreeSolitaire.com is exactly that—a perfectly middle-of-the-road experience.
Here is my breakdown of a website that is, in all honesty, simply "okay."
The Good: Reliable and Functional
The highest compliment I can give FreeSolitaire.com is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It does exactly what it says on the tin.
Standard Gameplay: If you want to sit down and play a classic game of solitaire without any hassle, this site provides exactly that. The mechanics work as intended, and the cards move smoothly.
Nothing Bad: Unlike some of the other sites we have looked at (like AARP or Solitr), you won't be fighting against aggressive, screen-hogging ads or dealing with game-breaking bugs. It is a stable, reliable environment.
The Drawbacks: Nothing Exceptional
The main reason this site won't be topping my "Best Of" lists is simply that it lacks ambition.
No "Wow" Factor: There is nothing exceptional here to draw you away from the major platforms. It doesn't have the massive 400+ game library or blazing speed of Solitaired, the gamified "Magic Button" of Solitaires.com, or the gorgeous big cards of TheSolitaire.com.
A Vanilla Experience: It is a very vanilla approach to the game. It lacks the modern flair and deep customization options that elevate a good solitaire site into a great one.
The Verdict
FreeSolitaire.com is the definition of an "okay" game. There is absolutely nothing bad about it, but there is also nothing exceptional that makes it stand out in a crowded market. If you happen to land on this site, you will get a perfectly adequate, functional game of solitaire. However, if you are looking for top-tier features, massive game variety, or modern aesthetics, you will probably want to keep looking.
