The Blueprint for Modern Solitaire: Online-Solitaire.com Review

By Martin Petroff

If you have spent any time playing on Solitaired.com and then visit Online-Solitaire.com, you are going to experience a massive wave of déjà vu. Because Online-Solitaire.com is the older of the two platforms—originating from an app built over a decade ago by developer Holger Sindbaek—it is highly likely that Solitaired actually drew its inspiration directly from this exact site. They share a remarkably similar feel, but this older sibling comes with its own unique set of pros, cons, and highly specific quirks.

Here is my breakdown of how this massive platform stacks up today.

The Good: Massive Library and Great Readability

Online-Solitaire.com gets the most important visual and content elements right, prioritizing a comfortable experience for heavy players.

  • Big Cards: Just like its spiritual successor, this platform utilizes big cards. This makes the gameplay highly accessible, readable, and incredibly comfortable for long sessions.

  • Endless Content: It boasts a massive library, featuring over 320 free solitaire variations. Whether you want standard Klondike or something incredibly obscure, you will find it here.

  • Daily Challenges: For players who like to test their skills and build a habit, the site features robust daily challenges to keep the gameplay fresh.

The Drawbacks: Quirks, Bugs, and Scrolling

While the core gameplay is fantastic, the site's layout choices and a lack of polish on secondary games introduce a few frustrations.

  • Annoying Ad Placement: The advertisements on the site actively push important content down the page. For example, if you want to view the leaderboards, you are forced to scroll past the ads just to check your standings, which disrupts the overall user experience.

  • The "Top-Left" Bug: There is a very specific, recurring visual glitch on this site. When you switch from playing Klondike to a different game variation, giant cards briefly flash in the top-left corner of the screen before disappearing. Curiously, Solitaired.com suffers from this exact same bug!

  • Incomplete Features for Niche Games: While the classic, popular games work perfectly, if you dive into the massive library of niche variations, you will quickly find that many of them completely lack basic quality-of-life tools like "Hint" or "Undo" buttons.

The Verdict

Online-Solitaire.com is a fantastic, feature-rich platform that essentially laid the blueprint for modern giant sites like Solitaired.com. It offers beautifully large cards and an incredible variety of games, but it is held back slightly by clunky ad placements that bury the leaderboards and a few unpolished bugs in its niche game modes. It is a highly recommended site, as long as you are willing to overlook a few minor wrinkles.
